Well, for the first time in almost three years my hosting provider, the great 1121.org, had an issue with their server that required a restore from backups. Sadly the backup was a few days old. I’ve restored the posts themselves, but I know I’ve lost some of the comments like Melchoir and Nob Hill Ken’s on the last video post. If you care to comment again feel free!

I guess I should learn to backup more often myself, but I don’t think in this case it would have made much of a difference… It’s hard to back up from a distance every night! Besides, that’s why I retain my RSS feeds, neh? -_^

I took the time this morning to upgrade this site and OOKEE.com to the latest Wordpress installation (2.7) called Coltrane. While you probably won’t know it just by looking, if you use Wordpress yourself you will probably LOVE the new Dashboard. I find it much more organized and simple to navigate. My only issue (?) is there isn’t an obvious “new post” button somewhere, though they have a fancy QuickPress widget that allows you to quickly write something up and post it.

Overall it seems pretty nice. If I run into anything particularly irritating I’ll post it in the comments…

UPDATE: I see the New Post button at the top right now… Weird because I could swear it wasn’t there before.

Oh hai! It looks like at some point over the weekend this site topped out over a million visitors since I started bothering with these sorts of stats in July of 2006. One million in a year and a half. I guess that’s not too terribly bad. Of those visits almost 120,000 were uniques, which I’m far more interested in. 120K individuals have come to my site. Sure, a lot of that number is probably search engines and spambots, but a good portion are awesome readers like you.

Many of the visits are a result of searches (overwhelmingly from Google). Some of the more interesting searches took you to learning about the best deodorant, they lyrics for the OREO cookie song, my fun encounter with the TSA a couple years ago, and my choices for top five speculative fiction actresses from a year ago. Mind you, these aren’t the only things that bring people in, they are just some of the top search entries. I have to shout out a big thank you to Costa for the deodorant one… Who knew it would get such attention?

Anyways, thank you for visiting and I hope to see you again soon!

It’s obviously been a slow week for posting here. I do apologize for that. Mostly I’ve been trying to prevent my brain from exploding from the insanity that was work. We’re doing a company reorganization and it’s needed to happen and what is happening is, overall, a good thing. Yet while the macrovision of what the reorg will look like is done, the specific detail are not. I have several projects to deliver, most of them soon and most of them contingent on each other, and I’ve learned that the people I would have worked with previously are no longer the people I will work with going forward. It’s just that no one seems to know who I will be working with going forward so I’m kind of screwed in the meantime. May, when one of the HUGE and detailed projects is due, is much sooner than these people think. So I’ve been struggling to find out who to work with and I finally managed to arrange some time to talk to the people who matter.

And this was only about a quarter of the work stress last week.

Anyways, it’s not the best excuse, but it’s what I have and I’m sticking with it. Next weekend is our big ski weekend in Tahoe and I have a few days off. I can’t wait; I need to decompress big time.

Tag! I’m it! Or as Carlos would say on his blog, Population Statistic, Guten Tagged! The goal is to divulge eight random things about myself after listing “the rules” and then tagging eight people who may -or may not- play along and list eight random things about themselves. Here are the rules.

1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

And here are eight random things about me.

1. I’ve been stabbed in the arm with a knife by a wild Korean boy screaming, “American!” after being chased by his gang out in Hannam-dong after visiting my friend John Schaffer. It was, as they say, “Merely a flesh wound!” Saying I was Canadian calmed them down. They even apologized. I lied, though. I’m American.

2. Speaking of Korea, my friend Robert, my brother Chris and I were almost killed by a notorious serial murderer! I even wrote a song about it, called Chopping Up Robert.

3. I used to have a cat named Lucifer. Otherwise, all my pet’s first names started with “K” (Killian and Kitwik).

4. I’ve lived in San Francisco just shy of 10 years continuously, which is almost three times longer than anywhere else I’ve ever lived.

5. I have over 700 books here at home, and have read approximately 85% of them. This is a small portion of what I’ve read in my life.

6. I hate theme parks. I think it’s the crowds, the lines, and the bad attitudes all the parents are repressing.

7. I love chocolate covered cherries. Their nickname is crack.

8. Just like Carlos, I’m a closet optimist.

Who to tag? I’d like to pick a few people who will play along, unlike last time. Jordon, Kevin, Cassandra, Heather, Different Boy, Molly McGee, Mookee and, just to see if she’ll bite, Milla.
