Someone Got a New Toy
I have to admit I didn’t think this would happen when we first started dating but as time progressed, Rosa expressed more interest in riding. She took the class and passed, looked at various motorcycles, and settled on the green and white Triumph Bonneville T100.
Congratulations, Rosa! I can’t wait (but I will, patiently) till we can go on our first road trip!

Gustav Skippone
I don’t normally drool too terribly much over motorcycles… Well, fine, I drool a lot if the machine is worthy and the Gustav Skippone from Yuri Shif is definitely… Worthy. If anyone wanted to get me something nice, now you have an idea.

Cafe Racer in Noe Valley

Spotted last weekend in Noe Valley along 24th Street. Black with gold detail. The engine was Honda, but I didn’t see the size anywhere (though painted on the block was 1100). The seat said, “BEEF,” which I hope was a favorite food…
One of the cool, cool details was the speedometer. It looks like they use lights to indicate the speed; more lights more speed. Very cool!

The plates were from Connecticut (I believe; CON is what they use there?). Hopefully they’re having a blast riding around the Bay Area!

Bikers and Dogs
As I’ve been riding lately, it came to me that bikers and dogs have a lot of things in common.
| Dogs | Bikers |
|---|---|
| Dogs can see each other from a mile away. | Bikers see (or hear) other bikers coming from at least as far. |
| Dogs will say hello to each other. | Bikers like to say hello to each other. Bikers mostly do not sniff each other’s crotches, though. |
| If dogs cannot say hello to each other they at least wag their tails. | It’s hard to say hello when riding, so bikers wave to each other. |
| Dogs will always enjoy being outside. | Bikers love to be outside, too… Riding. |
| If dogs are not enjoying being outside it’s because of rain. | Bikers generally do no enjoy riding in the rain. |
| Dogs are generally happy simply being a dog. | Bikers are happy being bikers. Everything else is candy. |
What else to bikers and dogs have in common? Try to keep it clean…

Poor Dead Seal
I’ve had this past week off and have been trying to fill the days with something more interesting than sitting on my butt dorking around on the computer. To that end I rode the motorcycle down to my old workplace to visit friends there on Tuesday and on Wednesday I took the curvy smooth Coastal Highway up to Bolinas. It was a great ride made much better by the fact that the roads were mostly clear of traffic.
I haven’t been up to Bolinas in a long time. I didn’t have my surf stuff with me (hard to strap a nine foot surf board to a motorcycle) I really wanted to get in. Maybe this weekend. Instead I took a walk along the beach and was going to go sit on what I thought was a log and watch the surfers. It wasn’t a log, though. I have no idea what killed the poor seal as aside from the seaweed conspicuously around its neck (but loose) there was no obvious cause.
Still, what a great day. The only thing that could have made it better is if I weren’t out alone. It’s hard to have time off and not be able to spend it with RMCA.

Heidi Klum on a Triumph
Yes, it’s shallow of me, but in the spirit of a previous entry of mine featuring Milla Jovovich on a Triumph, here is Heidi Klum posing on one, too.

Images found via Egotastic! after random searches on Google.
Oh, and by the way, today is Milla Jovovich’s birthday; Happy Birthday Milla!

Lawrence and the Helmet
I recently learned, via The New Cafe (Racer) Society, that I sort of have the tragic death of T.E. Lawrence to thank for the fact that I’m made to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. This is a good thing, though it saddens me that it took the death of one of history’s more interesting personalities to bring this about. It turns out that Sir Hugh Cairns, one of the neurosurgeons who tried to save Lawrence’s life after a motorcycle crash, became very interested in how to prevent it from happening again. His research led to safety helmets for motorcycles and much of the legislation mandating their use.
It’s interesting to me because Lawrence has always been one of those larger than life characters for me, and I’ve seen the movie Lawrence of Arabia many times. I knew he died in a motorcycle accident, but I had no idea helmet and helmet laws were the result. As they say, The More You Know…

Electric Motorcycles
Obviously gasoline powered cars will eventually go the way of the Dodo. Motorcycles get tons better gas mileage than the most fuel efficient automobiles (on average; there are some gas guzzling bikes out there) but eventually it would be nice to have a motorcycle with the power, speed and handling of a petrol based engine but running off electricity.
Some of the attempts are better suited to scooters for all the power and styling they have. Yet Suzuki is working on something it calls the Suzuki Crosscage. Apparently it runs on hydrogen which would be great in a city where you can get the fuel delivered to your house and suck if you wanted to go on a road trip (unless you’re in Iceland where they promote it).
Some day…

Galactica Women on Motorcycles
As you’ve probably guessed, I love Battlestar Galactica. I’m also excited about motorcycles since I started riding. A few months ago I linked to pictures of Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff cruising around the Solvang wine country. Now they’re at it again, in a photo shoot, for Interview Magazine. Ah, Katee, if you weren’t already taken… and completely out of my league… etc.
*sigh*
