Corks Ahoy!

Here’s something for the intertrons to answer… I have collected a lot of corks from the many, many bottles of wine me (and usually others) have drunk. Several hundred. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do with them? Creative answers are acceptable; saying I should throw them away is not.

Anyone?

It would be a pretty small boat… What kind of boat?

cut them in half length-wise and make a corkboard out of them. My sister did the same as a gift fore. I will always treasure it.

I like the furniture idea. A chair would be great for a rec. room or deck. Or keep drinkin’ and you’ll be able to build an entire dinette set (though how you’d coordinate that with the rest of your furniture is beyond me.)

Like the corkboard: drink coasters, trivets

or just funky art…create and paint.

glue 5 or 6 together in a circle and make into a center piece – would be able to stick flags / signs / flowers into them.

I love some of these ideas, though I have to admit some are a little too cute. Maybe if I had kids I would see them a bit differently but as it is… I’m leaning towards corkboard, a boat (somehow; model type?) or possibly a big stick of cork.

Here’s some more ideas for those interested…

I have always thought it would be clever to collect corks the whole year and then make a Christmas wreath out of them for the holiday season.

Just keep collecting them. Start dating them … just the date, maybe a location…anything without a date would be B.D. (Before Dating). I like all the ideas, but doing anything with them takes away the historical value … unless you’re going to make a corkboard and never use it. Sure, they become nothing more than worthless collectibles … but there is something to say about that sort of thing. Your great great great grandkids won’t know you, but they won’t be tempted by selling a bunch of worthless corks that have a sort of history. I could go on this one for a while. I say seal them in a container, store it, and start the collection over, with dates this time…it’s a great collection.

I actually saw an ad just recently in an “in flight overpriced catalog” for a kit to make trivets or coasters as Synnove suggested.
