Memo to Self: Detailed Statements

Memo to Myself: if ever I’m involved in an incident that requires me to make a statement to the police, make sure it is detailed and that I review it once or twice before submitting it officially.

(This comes from watching the cross examination of witnesses at the trial I am on the jury for…)

Actually, I have come to the conclusion that you should never report anything to the police. I was involved in a hit and run. Several witnesses saw it and the license plate was given to the police. Nothing has been done because no one saw the face of the driver and the owner of the car will not be held accountable. The police will not release the information to me so that I can report it to my insurance company. Also, where I live, the police do not come. MS-13 Land and all. It’s really sad that my tax dollars are being put to enforce traffic tickets rather than real crime.

Well, that’s just bullcrap that you’re not getting help. That being said, there may come a day when you are required to give a statement to the police and, trust me, you do not want it to be ambiguous or lack any details. Watching people cross examined recently made it clear that one of the attorneys will attempt to paint you as a hypocrite (or at a minimum try to show you as unreliable) if something is missing.

I’m afraid I missed the MS-13 reference, unless you mean some governmental pay grade?
