That being said, there may come a day when you are required to give a statement to the police and, trust me, you do <i>not</i> want it to be ambiguous or lack any details. Watching people cross examined recently made it clear that one of the attorneys will attempt to paint you as a hypocrite (or at a minimum try to show you as unreliable) if something is missing. I was involved in a hit and run. Several witnesses saw it and the license plate was given to the police. Nothing has been done because no one saw the face of the driver and the owner of the car will not be held accountable. The police will not release the information to me so that I can report it to my insurance company. Also, where I live, the police do not come. MS-13 Land and all.
