Thanks Santa…

After 36 hours or so I am finally at my parents in the DC area. The first day of the journey ended in a cancelled flight after hours of waiting. They put me on a flight for yesterday morning and, I guess as compensation, put me in first class.

I woke up a little after 6AM and after a shower and a quick repacking of my backpack (the suitcase stayed at the airport and eventually made it’s way to Dulles/IAD) JG took me to the terminals. As I already had my boarding pass and nothing to check in, getting through security and to the gate was easy. Happily the plane was there and we boarded and left on time.

Chicago was a different story. We arrived on time and my gate for DC was very close, but the plane was already delayed an hour and a half. Worse, of the three other planes going to DC, two of them were cancelled. So I waited. I walked the entire length of Concourse B. I listened to my iPod. I talked on the phone a couple times.

“Hi Dad. Yep, delayed again!”

“Yuria! Happy Christmas!”

“Scott, I am falling asleep on my feet.”

My delayed plane was supposed to start boarding at 5:30PM. The plane arrived shortly before then, so I knew we’d be delayed even longer. At this point patience or madness… I chose patience.

We boarded the plane. More delays as they “sorted out some mechanical problems.” More delays as we waited from some vehicle to come along and jump start one of the engines. Finally FINALLY we were off.

I gotta say that first class isn’t nearly as appealing if you’re too tired to enjoy it.

The only snag after getting to DC and being picked up by my parents was that my suitcase was at another airport. That finally arrived today.

~36 hours to get to my parents.

~48 hours before the arrival of luggage and I can call the entire debacle a closed deal.

Thanks, Santa, for the gift! I didn’t realize I was so naughty this past year…
