4th Season of Battlestar Galactica

This is probably the best news I’m gonna get this Valentine’s Day.

SCI FI Channel announced that it has renewed its Peabody-winning original series Battlestar Galactica, ordering 13 new episodes. Production will resume this summer in Vancouver, Canada, with an eye toward a January 2008 premiere.

Of course every rose has it’s thorn and this is no exception. A January premier? Half a season and not a full season? Hello! What are we supposed to do until then?

buy season 3 on dvd and write fanfic, I guess.

I have no idea how season 3 goes, but this looks like a signal that they’re not going to do a season 5. In which case, I hope that they use the 13 eps to finish off the series nicely, instead of leaving us all hanging, like some producers did with John Doe or Tru Calling.

And also Space: Above and Beyond and Firefly.

Yeah, I’m hoping that if this is getting towards the end that they wrap it up neatly. I’ll give huge props to SciFi and their parent company if they allow at least this much (though I’d rather they didn’t cancel at all if there is still a good story to tell).

After they moved the show to Sunday night, I was fearing they were going to cancel it outright. Good that they’re wise enough to order the 4th season, though it’s really disappointing that it’s only 13 episodes.

I guess we will find out what it all means when it happens.

Anyone heard anything about the prequel series Caprica? Has that gotten the go-ahead?

I thought it was just a mini-series and had already aired. But I could easily be wrong. I was kinda pissed that it seemed to be setting up this chain of Adamas that saved the world over and over again.

Trust me, if Caprica had aired already I would have been all over it. :)

I don’t know what the thrust of the story would have been exactly. I doubt it would have dealt primarily with Admiral Adama’s Dad because we know that he was a lawyer. Possibly further back? I seem to recall they wanted it to deal with the first Cylon war in some sense, to give more context to the current series.

My big thing is that prequels rarely work. Offhand giving it just a few minutes contemplation I can’t think of any prequel that actually did well and enhanced a storyline…

From what little I remember, I think it was going to deal with Admiral Adama’s grandfather. Or maybe someone earlier….

I just finished Season 1 over the weekend, and I’m on the second disc of Season 2.0 at the moment. I’ve already got 2.5 lined up. Since season 3 is currently underway, I guess I’ll have to wait for 3.0/3.5 to come out on DVD to see them; at least I’ll be ready when season 4 come out in Jan. I’ve been meaning to catch up on BG for ages; I’m glad I finally did- I’m really enjoying it so far.
