SF Armory = Porn Palace

The San Francisco Armory
The San Francisco Armory
I’m really saddened by the news that the venerable but decrepit San Francisco Armory has been purchased by web porn company Kink (NSFW link) for $14.5 million.

I’ve always loved this building, and it’s one of the first ones I took note of when I moved out here. Every time I drove past it I dreamed of turning it into a combination restaurant, cafe and club (with some live shows) with apartments on the top floor and possibly studios. If only I had the money that knobbly brick building would be mine!

I have nothing against porn per se, but like most “wholesome” people I prefer it far from the places I love, let alone within a place I love. I rather hope they will not destroy the exterior or the neighborhood. I wonder if there are any limitations because the Armory is a historic landmark.

Image from NoeHill. I find the price of gas at the ARCO station in the picture to be rather quaint these days…

Yeah, I fully wish the Armory were being turned into a restaurant or nightclub with apartments or condos on top as well (I’d consider moving in!), but since it’s been vacant for the past 37 years…

I definitely see your point in so far as it would be be regrettable if a *retail* porn shop were open up in a a building like the Armory. But given that the company in question is, as I understand it, going to use the space soley for media production, I really have no problem with it. And if the production company actually does rent out space to mainstream filmmakers, as they claim to be considering, then I’m totally for it.

As well, I fail to understand the quote from Luis Granados, who said, “Do I think it’s a good fit for our family-based neighborhood? No, I don’t.” . The porn isn’t going to be public, so what’s the problem? This guy is the executive director of the Mission Economic Development Association and he’s crowing about a business buying a building that’s stood vacant since 1970. That kind of needless alarmism and babble about “family” not only serves to wind other residents up needlessly, but, I suspect, also runs contrary to his organization’s goals. The transaction may not be optimal for *him* in that it apparently doesn’t appeal to his sensibilities, but it isn’t bad for his neighborhood in any way I can see; in fact, it could be quite *good* for his neighborhood.

You’re “wholesome”? Please. We’ve all seen your purity test results!

Doug is wholesome. At least seems so to me. I wish they would just tear the thing down and build a parking lot, preferably just an open, paved lot where one could park their car.

Since it has been bought by a porn king (whatever), I think he should tear down the walls and replace them with glass, then use it as a film studio…oh, and have apartments on top, with glass floors…that were only rented/sold to families of four or more…of Mormons…

…all of course, unless the guy decided to put some cannons on the roof as well as some other heavy/long range artillery and start taking over portions of … Oakland from this side of the Bay. THAT would be cool.

This is fantastic news. Historically, there has never been enough pornography in the Mission to go ’round. Now all those enormous families that Mr. Granados speaks of can each hire their own professional dominatrix instead of settling for the usual illiterate street-walker! There could even be ‘donimnannies’ to watch over the little ones! Oh, what happy, quiet, extremely *well-behaved* children we’d see traipsing around the Mission!

This would, of course, likely bring about a rise in the number of submissives in the next generation. In which case, SLC needs to plan to leverage this trend and cater to this exciting new market in about 18 years time!

No kidding. I’ve already looked into moving into the area.

Boys boys, you need to relax. Kink.com has made it clear they are decent and respectable pornographers who treat their employees and stars with dignity even when they are the sub. This is, to my understanding, nothing either of you are interested in; you’ve always seemed to love the dirty, sloppy kind of porn, neh?
