The Constant Gardner
I’d put off watching The Constant Gardner for a very long time because one of the key marketing points when it was in theaters seemed to be the secret infidelity of Rachel Weisz’s character, Tess. I didn’t want to watch a movie about infidelity, even if Rachel Weisz did get an Oscar for her performance.
But last night Mookee and I sat down and watched it and I found myself taken in. My grievance was misplaced and there was merely an alleged infidelity. Stupid marketers. They also get it wrong when they describe the movie as some sort of spy thriller simply because the story was written by John le Carré. MI6, they only “spy” element in the whole movie, plays a small and incidental role. Rather this was a dramatic thriller set mostly in eastern Africa.
Anyways, despite the sometimes confusing editing and the strange non-reaction (or at least greatly delayed reaction) of Ralph Feinnes’ character to the death of his wife I rather liked the film. Worth seeing.
