Different Boy’s Generational Identity

A couple days ago Different Boy posted an interesting article which seems to lament his generation’s lack of identity or name. Go read it. I posted a comment you can read after the jump.

World’s Best Blogger Sarcasm

Loads of people blog, but why? Well, because they can’t wait for the success of the ultimate blog post that gets them the rank of The World’s Most Popular Blogger or Most Popular Blogger. That or the more narcissistic and solipsist title of The World’s Best Blogger. Being the interweb, quite a few people go for Best Tech Blog though I feel the title should be Technically the Best Blog.

If you can figure out how to change the word “piggies” for “bloggers” then I’ll give you the coveted award of World’s Best Blogger Sarcasm just because awards don’t really mean squat anymore.

This little piggie went to market,
This little piggie stayed home,
This little piggie had roast beef,
This little piggie had none,
And this little piggie cried, “Wee! Wee! Wee!”
All the way home.

Send me your entries (or post them in the comments) and in a week, if anyone bothers, I will hand out the award for World’s Best Blogger Sarcasm just for shits and giggles.

Guernica

I love how Marcelo R. Oritz ties Picasso, Van Gogh, Dali and Escher into a cubist suicide in his 3D animation, Guernica. It’s definitely not a world I would want to wake up into. Duran Duran’s The Chauffeur adds another layer of weirdness to the visuals. I hope Mr. Oritz’s Skeletoons website goes live soon (this link will have to do for now). I loves my skeletons!

Half a Man

Half A Man
Half a Man

Today I went out to get a Coke. It had been a crappy day and I needed the caffeine badly. I walked out of the front door of our building and this is what I saw. WTF!, I thought, There’s just half a man lying there!.

It turns out this guy dropped his keys down the storm drain and was trying to dig them out of the primeval ooze. He had a couple gobs of goo on the pavement but no keys. A friend of mine asked if he’d lost his wedding ring… That would have been funny. And sad. Eventually he tried putting the heavy ass iron grill back over the drain and… dropped it! He dropped the bloody thing into the sewer! At that point he put a hazard sign out and just left. Walked away. I wonder if it will still be fscked up in the morning.

Zionvlad has the the whole story (and better pictures).

Wine and Blogs; a Mankas Hills Offer

It’s a well known fact: bloggers and wine mix quite well. Maybe not at the same time, but sometimes yes. And there are many wine blogs to peruse at your leisure.

Though I, like most of my friends, are far from sommelier-caliber abilities we do love to have a glass or four when we gather. The problem with a lot of wine for us is the cost; I hesitate to spend fifteen dollars or more on a wine I do not know.

Mankas Hills Vineyard 2004 AmelieThat’s why I was rather excited to get an email from my friend Roger to let me know that Mankas Hills Vineyards was giving away a bottle of wine to bloggers in specific.

Mankas Hills Vineyards is a small endeavor and not very widely known yet. We have some excellent Cabernets which we would like everyone to find out about and we really believe in the power of word of mouth and Web 2.0.

So here is our offer: Mankas Hills Vineyards would like to send a free sample bottle of our new 2004 Amelie Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot out to anyone who has a blog and lives in the United States.

In actuality there are some legal limitations on who can and cannot receive the wine. Even so, it’s an amazing offer and I wrote in to join the recipient lists if possible. I also asked about the name of the wine as Amelie is one of my favorite movies.

Yesterday I got an answer from Andrea at the winery. “The wine is called Amelie after my daugther. My father, who started the winery along with his brother, wanted to give sometime special to his newborn grand daughter and so he thought he would name a wine after her. She was born in 2004 just like the wine.” I love family businesses because something as simple as this shows the importance of family, love and legacy.

Although there is “no obligation” to blog about the wine, I’m actually looking forward to it. The 2004 Amelie recently won a silver at the San Francisco International Wine Competition (annoying Flash site). Mankas Hills Vineyard is in the Suisun Valley on the other side of Napa from Sonoma. I think I should so some research and plan a trip up there with friends since I’d never been there before…

Exhausted, but in a Good Way

I’m beat. Have you ever done so much in a 24 hour period that you couldn’t believe you were still awake? I just went through that, and Labor Day weekend has only just begun!

She Mows My Lawn

Here’s a new song for you, called She Mows My Lawn. I started writing it as an idea for a movie script I’m working on with NHK. I needed to work on a melody line for a new song and randomly picked up some very old lyrics sent to my by my friend JB (it has the same title). When the song was finished I decided the lyrics probably could stand to change; they felt a bit… misogynistic. I can’t be too wrong if even Mookee agreed the lyrics needed revamping. The song doesn’t work for the movie anymore -the theme is completely offbase now- but it’s still pretty good and lots of fun to play.

I hope you like She Mows My Lawn! You can download the song here (alternative download here) and read the finalized lyrics after the jump. Let me know what you think in the comments. You can get a few other songs I’ve been working on in the music category.
