Bye Bye Blackbirds
I just got back from seeing my friend Ian’s band, the Bye Bye Blackbirds (BBB?) at The Red Devil Lounge on Polk Street. The last time I was here was to see Brandi Shearer and my opinion about the place hasn’t changed; I love the space but it’s really not the best venue for live music.
And yet BBB sounded great, just as Brandi did all those years ago. They’ve got an interesting 60s pop, slight twang, Elvis Costello-ish reverb happy sound that is quite catchy. I’d always known Ian played but never had a chance to see him in action. I’m glad I did and I’m looking forward to hearing a longer set!
