Redwood In the Yard
For the past year or so I’ve been growing a redwood tree here in my living room. I got from Ann’s house and I don’t even remember the specific circumstances. I think it was one of her roommate’s and they had basically abandoned it.
So I took it home, potted it, watered and fed it. I thought initially that it was going to die. Now, many months later, I planted it in the backyard. What started off as a three inch sprout is now two feet tall and growing. It’s the first tree I’ve ever planted.
*sigh*. I’ll miss the little guy in my living room, but I hope he does well in the yard!

Growing up in North Dakota, we were sent home from elementary school with a small pine tree every year on Arbor Day. I planted each and every one of them, but not one ever survived a winter. Good luck with the tree.

I am quite worried for the little guy. It’s funny how invested I am. It’s one of the very first plants I’ve ever had that actually lived when I was taking care of it. Normally they don’t survive the first few months.
I probably won’t write too much more about the redwood (maybe I should give it a name?) unless something dramatic happens like it grows three feet in a year (which I hear can happen) or it dies (in which case I’ll feel really guilty). I think it will survive the winter out here; they tend to be rather mild. In fact it’s probably colder today in the middle of summer than it ever gets in most winters here!
