Long Day at Work
You’d think that eventually a company would stabilize. Not so with where I work. We are growing and the growing pains are rough at times. Today we moved around 68 people to make seating locations conform to the new org charts. Tomorrow morning we get to make sure all the computers are plugged in and running correctly, and that the phones have the correct person’s name on them.
Nothing like working on the weekend to prevent you from catching up on whatever sleep you’ve been missing out on for the last several weeks… Ah well. At least I’ll get a comp day, right? Boss? Right? I know you’re reading this. I am getting a comp day, right?

Funny, you work in the private industry, so, when you do a big project like this you go in on the weekend to make sure everything is working properly…
…the government is not so intelligent. Last week, the city of San Francisco (or whoever is in charge of BART, I’m sure it’s not just San Francisco, but some agency that is run by some government) decided to test all it’s new protocols during rush hour. Apparently there was something like hour and a half delays.
I don’t envy you having to go in on a weekend, but a least your company is smart enough to know when to do maintenance work that may be problematic at first.

As long as you get paid/compensated for every single second, there’s no problem with working voluntary overtime; in fact, it can be very lucrative.

BART is a conglomerate. They are rather stupid to have been testing on hours. I guess the official story is something like they were working on backing up their main systems and that killed it all, and their secondary systems failed on top of that.
As far as compensation I’m salaried so I’m not getting any extra money. I did, however, confirm today that I’m getting some comp time… That will be useful.
