Four Years Later

Do you feel more or less safe in America than four years ago?

Do you feel more or less paranoid about the world?

Do you feel more or less trust in the Federal government?

I’m curious what folks answers would be. Please leave a comment and don’t feel required to give reasons for your answers. For myself I would have to answer: less, less, less.

I’m not exactly sure what the objective here is, you feel less safe? it’s an inmpossible question to answer, unless you actually asked the question prior to 911. I don’t feel any more or less safe.

As for the world? Again, can’t answer it. Considering that a good portion of Eastern Europe is having problems, maybe not huge ones, but problems nonetheless, along with the general tenure of things in the Middle East (which I must add wasn’t stable BEFORE 911, unless you actually listen to Sean Penn, I’d say if anything I’m more paranoid about the world, and it’s mainly because a good portion of the “western” world is ignoring fanatics in the name of PC. Thank God Tony Blair finally took a stand…despite not having actually implemented his policy, at least he stated one that made sense, “abide by our rules or get the hell out.”

As for trust in the Federal Government…not because I think GW is trustworthy, but rather Clinton was completely incapable of being trusted, but I’d say more … doesn’t really mean anything, the federal government doens’t know a damn thing about what normal people want.

So, in short: decline to state, more, less.

Ooops….I meant “Decline to state, more, more.”

    The Objective is Subjective
I was just curious about what people think about the state of things. Simple answers that at some point might lead to complex answers.

    Yes and no…

I would have to say about the same. I always knew that SF would be a potential target of an attack — the fact that there was one on New York hasn’t changed that. Nor do I think the government (or anyone else, for that matter) is any more capable of preventing one than before, but I also don’t think one is any more likely than it was before. As for crime and such, I feel the same there too — I don’t think dumbya has done anything to lessen it (quite the opposite, actually), but since he’s shipped an awful lot of people off to die, there are possibly more jobs to be had for those criminals who would take the opportunity if given them.

For the most part, the world is just laughing at us. We’re drunk Grandpa Bob who thinks he’s the life of the holiday party when really he’s only tolerated because it’s so funny to watch him fall down the stairs. Oh, and rightly so.

As for the parts you’re likely thinking of, I would have to say about the same. According to dictionary.com, paranoia is “Extreme, irrational distrust of others.” I don’t think its at all extreme or irrational to think that a goodly portion of the world hates our guts and I don’t think they’ve lied about it. And again, rightly so.

Do you feel more or less trust in the Federal government?

This is a tough one. I certainly didn’t trust Bush and Co. much before hand. Four years ago, (and still today,) I thought it nearly certain that Bush and Co. had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks, but, at the same time, would not have been surprised too much if it turned out they had planned it. Certainly I think they took advantage of it and used it for their own benefit. I can’t say I trusted them before, but if there was any change (and if it is possible), I would say I trust them less now.

I keep asking myself, how could I have brought children into this world?

How could you have brought children into this world?
Easy. Children are sometimes the victims of the sociopolitical world, but they are not of it. The reasons for having children usually don’t have anything to do with the world around us so much as the immidiacy of who we are in the moment. That’s probably why even under the worst conditions people still have children (deliberately or not).
