How to Apply to the ITMS?
I saw this book referenced from MacFixit or Macintouch today. It is a guide to getting your music on the iTunes Music Store. This got me wondering how difficult it is to do on your own.
Apparently it is not simple. You have to already belong to a label and there are rumors that you have to be invited. This article, though old, provided the most amount of detail. It also makes reference to special Music Store Encoder tool which would encode the music with the proper metadata. I wonder if it is related to the AppleLoops SDK? In the end I didn’t find any specific information on how to get this done, or even an application page if you are an existing independent label. I suppose this is why I’m not an “insider” for the music industry.
One interesting find while digging around was an iTunes Music Store Link Maker which will allow you to make hyperlinks to various music. Pretty keen when you’re trying to tell someone to get a song or even tell them about a song.
