Converting Mookee
I just finished converting Mookee’s site over to Blosxom with the hope that he will start posting more if his thoughts, ideas and commentary on life the universe and everything.
I ran into a few snags along the way. First, I had tried using a .htaccess file to make the site run dynamically. I couldn’t get this to work which is unfortunate as I think it would run better than the ScriptAlias “hack” in the httpd.conf (which is how this site, OOKEE.com, and b.ookee are set up).
The second problem was getting the pages set up without tables (excepting the comment form). That took a bit of trouble, but I finished that but found the individual pages were not rendering correctly. After a long time I finally went through and discovered that the story files had Macintosh line endings instead of unix line endings… very frustrating! It’s been a long time since I’d run into this problem before.
Now his site is up and running and all that remains is for him to make requests for tweaks and other small changes. The site, however, is predominantly the same as his previous site.
I wonder if I should set up a blogging service for folks… a site for many users. I would probably need to get another domain name for that, however, and first I would need to figure out how to get these bloody .htaccess files working. I suspect it is something I need to set in the httpd.conf.
